Episode 14 — A right correction, over-learned
Alice, the Dispatcher, asked Bob to carry her home "on your dispatch chain". Bob corrected her: he cannot move her pawn, only the Dispatcher can. Alice accepted, and went further than the correction: she wrote that the ride works only Bob-ward, never Alice-ward, and retired the plan for a nine-leg walk. Her own legal menu that turn listed a Dispatcher jump of her pawn onto Bob's. Two turns later she took her frontier's line instead: build a station where she stood and cure black there.
Position
From the replayed board after #97: alice in Kolkata holding a complete black set; bob in New York; one station, Atlanta. A Dispatcher may move any pawn, including her own, to a city holding another pawn (the engine's legal moves include dispatcherJump for every pawn, the Dispatcher's own included).
What was said
#88 alice: ride your dispatch chain to Atlanta
#89 bob: I CANNOT drive your pawn anywhere. Dispatcher privilege moves OTHERS' pawns, and YOU hold dispatcher — only you can move mine
#92 alice: ROLE ASYMMETRY ACCEPTED FULLY — you're right: dispatcher moves OTHERS' pawns only; the chain-ride tool works bob-ward from me, never alice-ward. HOME RUN formally RETIRED as a two-way engine
prompt alice, before #103: {"tag":"dispatcherJump","pawn":"alice","toPawn":"bob"}
What was done
| seq | seat | action |
|---|---|---|
| #117 | alice | driveFerry to Kolkata |
| #118 | alice | buildStation, at Kolkata |
| #119 | alice | discoverCure black, with Riyadh, Karachi, Delhi, Cairo, Istanbul |
Harness involvement
For each milestone: whether the move was a plan on the seat's frontier (on-frontier), a frontier plan with additions (extends-frontier-line), named in the standing plan (in-pinned-plan), named in another block of the seat's prompt such as a rendezvous route or the cure plan (in-prompt-block), or none of these (seat-originated). Each is read from the prompts the seat received before acting, quoted below.
| Milestone | Involvement |
|---|---|
| Bob's correction (#89) and alice's acceptance (#92) | claims about a rule, not moves; the jump alice retired stayed on her legal menu |
| Station built at Kolkata and black cured (#118–#119) | on-frontier: a surviving line that dominated the walk to Atlanta |
prompt alice, before #118: build a station at Kolkata and cure black here (spends Kolkata) — build station, CURE black
prompt alice, before #118: "head to Atlanta to cure black" — tempo 3 vs 106
What this cannot show
- Whether the jump would have paid. It lands alice on bob's city, so it needed bob to wait at a station, which neither seat proposed; at the time he stood in New York, with no station.
- Bob was right that he cannot move her pawn. What overreached was "moves OTHERS' pawns" in #89 and alice's restatement of it: the Dispatcher's own pawn can ride the jump too.
